About the winery and the wine
Antonio Madeira is a true farmer and vigneron. In 2011, he decided to move to his home in Dao after staying in France more than half of his life. In his return to Dao, which is Portugal’s mountain ridge and high elevation region, he found and rejuvenated old, neglected vineyards in the Serra de Estrela hills. From here, he wanted to produce natural and original wines with biodynamic farming. Each vineyard has co-plantings which he co-ferments, believing what grows together should go together. Burgundy inspired, results are the most elegant, extremely fresh, and singular field blend wines of Portugal.
Tasting Profile
The Dão Tinto is a field blend of Alfocheiro, Touriga Nacional and other unidentified varieties grown at high altitude. The old vines penetrate deep into the earth in search of sustenance, creating an intensely mineral wine reminiscent of black pepper, ripe red fruits, liquorice and exotic spice.
